    Description

"Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid"  is a book that won the Pulitzer Prize. The English subtitle of the book is paraphrased as "An Eternal Golden Belt". The book mainly tells how the creative achievements of the logician Gödel, the artist Escher, and the composer Bach are intertwined. As the author said: "I realized that Gödel, Escher, and Bach just expressed the same essence in different ways. I tried to reproduce this essence and wrote this book." This book does not study these three people at a deep level. That's just one of the ways to the central theme of the book-Hou Shida pointed out in the preface: "Whether words and thoughts follow the rules of formality? This is the central question of this book."

Classic of biology and modern science sets forth seminal "theory of transformation" -- that one species evolves into another not by successive minor changes in individual body parts but by large-scale transformations involving the body as a whole.

    Description

In this book, Toynbee lists more than 20 surviving or dead civilization forms in the history of the world, and makes a comprehensive comparison of their respective developments. He believes that culture is through the "challenge" to the environment. It is born out of the challenge of the challenge; the growth of culture is determined by the historical activities of a few great figures who “retire” and “return”; the decline of culture comes from the loss of creativity by a few creators, and most people respond accordingly No longer supporting and imitating, the entire society has lost its new ability to challenge; the disintegration of civilization lies in the division of the social system and soul. This book breaks away from the Western-centrism and the historical view of linear development of a single history, and has a lofty status in Western historical philosophy works.

    Description

The last great migration of mankind, with more than a century of urbanization, brought the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution to Europe and the New World, and directly caused a thorough change in human thinking, governance, and science and technology. Today, the settlement cities around the world are making history. This indifference to history has led to continuous riots and riots in Paris, London, and Amsterdam. In Asia, Africa and South America, reckless slum clearance plans are destroy-ing the lives and future of tens of thousands of people.

In fact, a large part of the history of this era was created by wandering rootless people. Because they were deprived of their citizenship rights, they resorted to extreme and violent methods in order to gain a place in the urban system. The city where you live may be the birthplace of the next wave of economic and cultural prosperity, or it may be the place where the next wave of major violent conflicts will erupt. Which path we take is entirely up to us.

    Reason for Recommendation

Regarding another unique perspective behind the urban dilemma, from rural to urban, one-third of the world's population is undergoing the final great migration. The book lists various cases of settled cities in the world and their rise and fall. As a participant in urban construction, how to face such "transitional" areas and more phenomena in the city, we need to constantly examine our work from such a perspective and dimension.
