    Shi Lei & Liu Bo

    Shi Lei & Liu Bo

    co-founders of Benmo Architecture

The end of the architecture is a project - based design team. They believe that architecture should not only meet the basic requirements of use, but also be a carrier and tool, like literature, film, music, painting, etc. Good architecture can also trigger people's emotions. In the practice of architecture, they pay more attention to the location and implementability. Low cost does not mean low quality of architecture. Through the use of space, materials and construction, Benmo Architecture makes every scheme have high quality feasibility and try to create buildings that can trigger emotions.

    Description

This is an architect for the protagonist of the novel, the book describes a talented architect, in the face of many difficulties to adhere to the self, the courage to fight the story.

    Reason for Recommendation

This book is not an architectural book, but it is closely related to architectural design. The choice of direction and inner persistence are more important than the learning of technology. No good design can be done without inner firmness and persistence of beautiful things in mind.In the actual project, from the scheme to the construction of each link will affect your design factors; The ability to distinguish good from bad and stick to the idea in mind is one of the decisive conditions to determine the final quality of the building.

    Description

"Tadao Ando's Successive battles and defeats" is another influential book compiled by Tadao Ando following tadao Ando on Architecture and according to his lectures in the Department of Architecture of Tokyo University. Tadao Ando is a self-taught world master architect. He has won a number of major world architecture awards and designed projects in many countries and regions." Ando myth was once popular in the global architecture industry and attracted extensive attention from insiders. In this book, Ando reviewed his work in the past years, narrating the challenges and struggles in the face of difficulties. Facing the "failure" of many challenging architectural competitions, Ando did not compromise with difficulties, but continued to challenge architecture with his extraordinary courage and faith. The book reflects ando's persistent pursuit and unyielding spirit of architectural design. This is a rare book that will inspire young people; Especially for young architects and architecture students, it has important reference significance.

    Reason for Recommendation

This book is still recommended because it conveys spiritual attributes rather than technical attributes. Everyone may be familiar with Ando's project, but the fighting spirit and indomitable courage in the face of difficulties conveyed by this book are not conveyed by most professional books. The ability to overcome various difficulties and turn the initial good idea into reality is another condition that determines the quality of the final building.

    Description

The Complexity and Contradiction of Architecture is one of Venturi's most influential works on architectural theory. The author thinks that architecture is deficient. Good architecture is necessarily contradictory and complex, not pure or simple. Meaning is richer than conciseness, and even more chaotic and vibrant than apparent unity. Mies famously said "Less is more", but Venturi said, "More is not less".

    Reason for Recommendation

Taking this book to the current domestic architectural design environment, it is still a critical weapon, so that those factory mode of fast-food design can not escape; It also teaches us how to make architecture full of blood and vitality. "Less is more" is not the only truth, sometimes messy and ambiguous is more in line with the requirements of the reality, so that the architecture is more vibrant. The intellectual process is admirable, too -- how Venturi's self-interpretation of cases makes his arguments convincing enough for readers to accept is one of the highlights of the book.

    Description

The construction concept discussed by Flampton regards architecture as a kind of construction skill, which poses a powerful challenge to the mainstream thought of infatuating with postmodern art, and presents a convincing and unique architectural road. Indeed, Frampton argues that modern architecture is as much about structure and construction as it is about space and abstract form.

    Reason for Recommendation

This is not a theoretical book, but after reading it, it can provide you with enough theoretical support and guide the function of the actual project, so that you can clear the direction of the heart; It does not discuss the beauty and ugliness of architecture, but subtly shapes a different aesthetic mode for you, which is different from the superficial aesthetic mode conveyed by architectural drawings and photos. It also provides a way to distinguish between commercial quality architecture and architectural quality architecture, giving you a clearer idea of what kind of building you want to do. In the context of domestic pragmatism and generally low cost, this book points out an exit and direction, gives us a standard for judging architecture, and lays a solid foundation for further thinking and practice.

    Description

This book records the thinking process of Peter Zumthor in his architectural practice. All the carefully selected photographs testify to the contemplative quality of Peter Zumthor's architectural thinking, which is made up of the aesthetic beauty of materials, the precise modeling of scale, the purity of abstract composition, the pleasure of perfect detail, and the dynamic connection between architecture and nature. In the book, Peter Zumthor expresses his motivation to design these buildings out of our own manifold feelings and understandings, and to have a strong and correct expression and personality.

    Reason for Recommendation

This is a book that I read frequently. At the beginning of my architectural practice, I only thought it was a light and easy to read and approachable master's essay. Later, with the accumulation of architectural practice experience, I will feel the deep meaning of Zumtor's words and understand the ideas accurately conveyed when I go back and read it again. Architecture is not only beautiful form and easy to use functions, these are only appearances, good architecture should involve real existence, full of poetic. Zumthor is certainly an architectural poet.

    Description

Rossi is the leader of the Rationalist architecture movement in Italy and one of the most influential theorists today. This book is one of his important works on architecture and urban theory. Rossi's book is a reappraisal of the modern architectural movement, as well as an analysis of the rules and forms of urban construction. Rather than commenting on bland architectural forms or rejecting standard images of modern architecture, Rossi highlights the neglect and destruction of the city as a repository of "human collective memory", as his title suggests. On the one hand, he attacked functionalism and modern architectural movement, on the other hand, he tried to restore the status of architectural craft itself and make it the only correct object of architectural research.

    Reason for Recommendation

To thoroughly understand this book, one should first understand the history of western architecture and the author's personal background. After reading this book, we will have a deeper understanding of the meaning of architecture, let us know what architecture should pursue in addition to building itself and conveying aesthetic intention, and let us distinguish building and architecture. The most charming part of this book lies in its vague accuracy, which arouses people's thinking and association. At the same time, it also encourages us to explore the possibility of realizing collective memory in daily architectural practice.

    Reason for Recommendation

The Mask of Medusa provides a pedagogical text for exploring the limitations of the design and construction process of architectural projects, as well as a library of project inspirations that often connect with perceptual and narrative architecture. Hejduk's views are a beacon for the learning process of breaking through the chaos of architectural design, revealing his ideas on the relationship between architecture and social trends and human emotions, and providing a new perspective for the generation and development of imagination.

    Description

"Philosophy of Art Reader" is a selection of philosophers and artists' interpretations of art and philosophy of art in the categories of art -- painting, photography and film, architecture and three dimensions, music, dance, literature, and performance journals, aiming to resist the attempt to treat art as a monolithic whole. It aims to help practitioners in these fields and readers who love each art to understand each art from a philosophical height. The complexity of the subject matter does not prevent the philosophy of art from embracing fascinating facts that are closely related to human activity.

    Reason for Recommendation

This is an anthology of scholarly classics on all kinds of art, of which architecture is just one part. As the author of the book hopes, art is a whole, and different kinds of art have the same philosophy and principles. Architecture as an art, its development is inseparable from the ideological trend of other art categories, this is a book that allows you to jump out of the discipline of architecture itself, and look at all kinds of art from a broader perspective. Each article is not long, suitable for daily reading.
